Well, we have a new Relief Society Presidency as of today, Sunday December 18th. Jodi, Becky, Melissa and I were released and Jane Stout, Marilee Sackolwitz, Kim Adams and Cassie Tonks were sustained as your new Presidency. I am grateful to have been able to serve each of you over the past 3 years and I know Jodi, Becky and Melissa feel the same. We wish to let the new presidency know how much we love and support them in this new calling and know that they will do a great job.

I can't believe another year has gone by already. Where has it gone and now we have another year to look forward to with a new Bishopric. They are truly great men and I know that they will serve us well. We will miss Bishop Drean, Ryan Harris and Dave Tyler at the helm, but know they will serve well where ever they go.

We as a presidency havc really enjoyed the great visits with each of you this past year and all that you do to help us in anyway.

Surgeries

Shanna Bingham had a knee replacement on the 15th and is home recuperating. Sheila Schroedter had her second one done today the 22nd and is in Ogden Regional Hospital for a few days and then going to a rehap center for a while. Both these sweet sisters could use a visit or help in anyway. If you are interested in helping let us know. We will be doing meals and you can call Carol Andersen to ler her know you can help. Thanks for all you do.

Haven't posted anything for a while so here is what is happening.

Our October Activity is this Thursday the 13th, at 7 pm at the church. We are doing 4 generation pages thanks to Amy Mitchell. The cost is $4. If you didn't sign up already, you may try calling Amy to see if she has extras. Hope to see you there. Another note, Jenny Roos and Nikki Sjoblom have sold their homes and will be moving out of our ward. Amy Nielsen has already moved.We will miss them very much, but wish them well in their new homes and wards.

Just to let you all know that she had surgery on her knee on Tuesday, April 26th. She is in Pineview Care Center for a while for her rehab. We will be needed to take meals in when she comes home. Congratulation to Becky Terry on her marriage to Rob Morrill. They were wed on March 24, in the Salt Lake Temple. An open house was held in their honor on Friday April 1. We will miss her as a member of our ward, but wish her all the best in her new life. We love you Becky.

We had a great lesson today on the Holy Ghost given by Kristane Willden. We want to welcome her as one of our newest teachers. She did a very good job and helped us to better understand the Holy Ghost and the role it plays in our lives. We have such good teachers who really put a lot of thought and study into their lessons and we are all blessed by their efforts. Progressive Dinner

We welcome our new teacher Lisa Howard with us this morning. She is teaching lesson #19 Repentance.

• Harrisville DI Service. October 21, 22. There are two shifts per day and we need two people per day. If you are interested contact and can take advantage of this opportunity to help contact Chris Adams or Dave Cowden.
• Ward Halloween Party. October 23. This is an opportunity for you to be able to dress up if you would like and have some fun. Trunk or treat to start the evening. Then more fun and dinner to follow.

Good News Update
• Laurie Drean announced they are expecting grandbaby #2 in May!
• Amy Mitchell is excited for Duane’s new job position. He will be home evenings and on Sunday.
• Candace Calder will be leaving the MTC on Wednesday. Our prayers go with Sister Calder as she serves the people of Kirtland, Ohio.
• Margie Felix gave us an update on Malayna. Her first companion was Pakistanian and had not gone through the temple yet. Sister Filix (Malayna) had the opportunity of going to the temple with her for the first time and being her escort. Margie gave us a site we can go to to see up dates of Sister Felix’s mission, it is: missionsite.net/sistermalaynafelix.

• Scott Howes had surgery on his next last week. Chris said that he is reported to be doing very well. He has already regained strength and feeling back in his hands.

Relief Society Updates
Since Jodi is gone to China for 2 1/2 weeks, I guess I had better update the blog.
Our lesson was number 17: " The Church of Jesus Christ Today"
It was taught by our newest teacher, Shanna Bingham. We welcome her and she did a great job. Thank you Shanna. The Church of Jesus Christ was taken from the earth after the death of Jesus Christ, and the death of His Apostles. That was the era known as the dark ages. For 1700 years there was spiritual darkness. The gospel was restored through Joseph Smith on April 6, 1830. We again had revelation, authority and the priesthood. The Church today is called the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saint. It will never be destroyed or taken from the earth again. Its mission is to take the truth to every person though out the world.

The lesson today is lesson #15, “The Lord’s Covenant People.”
“As the Lord’s covenant people, we should keep His commandments. The Lord said, ‘I, the Lord, am bound when ye do what I say; but when ye do not what I say, ye have no promise’ (D&C 82:10). If we reject our covenant after accepting the gospel, the covenant becomes void and we will stand condemned before God (see D&C 132:4). He has said; ’Refrain from sin, lest sore judgments fall upon your heads. For of him unto whom much is given much is required; and he who sins against the greater light shall receive the greater condemnation” (D&C 82:2-3).

Good News Update
• Laurie announced how well her family did at the South Weber Days 10K. Patrick took 1st in his category, Laurie took 2nd and Bishop took 3rd. Way to go Drean family! We also found out our Cedar Bench Ward had a great representation at the 10k.
• Kristin Howes was happy that they have two finished bedrooms downstairs. (We as a presidency got a peak at the new rooms this past week and they look great).
• Sandy shared the news that her oldest son is planning on going through the temple in October. What a wonderful blessing for their family.

Relief Society Updates
August 1, 2010

Jodi Dallof is teaching the lesson today titled “As I Have Loved You Love One Another.” In a recent Auxiliary Training meeting we were encouraged to remember our Savior and his example as we visit our sisters. Jesus dedicated his life to doing the work of our Heavenly Father. In humility he gave of himself, by manifesting the greatest love of all mankind. During his brief life on this earth he demonstrated the best example of loving service, even to the end of his life at the last supper when he washed his disciple’s feet. In John Chapter 13 we read the touching account about how he teaches by example as he washes the feet of his disciples, then gives the commandment to Love one another as He has done. He also tells us how happy we will be if we follow his example in John 13:17 “If ye know these things, happy are ye if ye do them.”
Remember to “Love one another as He has loved us,” (John 13 34) and not only will we feel that joy in our lives, but that love and joy will spread to others around us.
We share a lot of love, as we have witnessed time and time again in this ward. The service rendered to each other is proof of the love that you have for our Savior and for each other.
In our ward there are many friendships, old ones and new ones being created. There is love among us through the loving compassionate service of all of you sisters, and there is enough love and strength that we can reach out past our ward boundaries and help others. I pray we always remember to follow our Saviors example and serve with humility. We love you sisters for all you do. May you all be blessed for your good works.

Margie Felix is teaching “Healing the Sick” by Elder Dallin H. Oaks.

• Susan Banner fell on Friday and broke her back in two places. Her son, Cameron, is coming home from his mission on Wednesday. Her and her family are in need of some. We have a sign up sheet going around for those who would like to help to bring in dinner this week. If you do not see the sign up sheet and would like to help please contact one of the Relief Society presidency: Chris Adams, Jodi Dallof, or Becky Ecton, or call Carol Andersen. We will be going into her home and helping clean on Tuesday morning at 10:00 am. If you can help clean please bring cleaning supplies. She needs help with dusting, cleaning blinds, and a lot of miscellaneous cleaning done in preparation for Cameron’s coming home. Susan and Todd have stated how much they have appreciated all the phone calls and support they have received so far. We do have a wonderful ward, thanks for all you continue to do.

Update on our Hike

Thanks to all who participated on our hike on Thursday. We had a great time. Getting lost was a definite highlight. You would think it would have made for an unsuccessful night, when in fact it added to the fun. We even thought of several lessons that could be taught and learned from the experience. While muscles were being strengthened so were friendships. And the smoothies were a welcome treat to top off the night. We look forward to more activities and hope they will all be as much fun.

Enrichment Acitvities

QUILTING:
On Tuesday August 11, at 10:00 am we will be setting up a quilt to tie. This will be up until the quilt is done. Let your kids come and play while you help. It will be set up in the cultural hall so there will be a lot of room to move around.

THE MILD HIKE:
Thursday August 20 we are meeting at the church at 6:30. Then we will be carpooling to Washington Park Golf Course, which is above 36th Street. There is a trail around the golf course we will be walking. It takes about 45 min to an hour to walk. Afterwards we will be going for smoothies to top off the night!

We Need Your Help

On July 16 we will be putting together school kits. Here are some suggested items needed to put in the kits: pencils, 1 pack lined paper, 1 box crayons, looseleaf binder, spiral bound notebook, folders, glue sticks, type paper, and backpacks if still in great condition. There are some optional items suggested like pencil sharpener, colored pencils, ruler, scissors, kleenex, bottle glue, and pencil holder. If you cannot make it that evening and would like to donate please contact one of the Relief Society Presidency.
We have also been asked to tie two quilts, which we will be doing that same night.
And to make it a little more fun we are inviting those who would like to, to bring a treat to share with everyone.
It will be a fun evening where we can enjoy each others company, share friendships and get to know each other a little better while doing service. Thank you for all you do. Hope to see you there.

Our March Enrichment Night was a fun and uplifting evening. While “Shopping at Zion’s Mall” we learned more about the gifts of Relief Society. We would like to thank our Enrichment Committee for all the time and effort they put into making the evening such a success. We would also like to give a special thanks to Julie Thorton, Heidi Tyler, Debbi Cowdin, Carol Anderson, and Donna Russell for their wonderful and creative ways of introducing each gift of Relief Society. Thank you to Becky Teri and her two helpers for providing a nursery where our little ones could go. Also thanks to all those who provided the yummy cakes. We have a great group of Relief Society sisters and it is wonderful when we can get together to share with each other. Thank you for all you do.

Relief Society Birthday Celebration

We are so excited about our Relief Society Birthday Party coming up on Thursday, March 19. The title of the evening is The Gifts of Relief Society “Shopping at Zion’s Mall.” Our enrichment committee has been working hard at planning an eventful and uplifting evening for everyone. There will even be birthday cake. We are looking forward to sharing this evening with all of you. And don’t forget, a nursery will be provided.

Ward Changes

As most of you know the Relief Society Presidency was released today. Donna, Janette, Jill and Georgette did an excellent job and will be greatly missed! We were really blessed to have them.

HOWEVER --- We got a new Presidency that will be wonderful as well and we welcome them with our support and love.

The new President is Chris Adams. The 1st Counselor is Jodi Dallof, 2nd Counselor is Jennifer Mund and Becky Ecton is the Secretary. The Compassionate Service Coordinator is Debbie Codwin. The Enrichment Specialist is Julie Thornton and the Visiting Teaching Supervisor is Susan Banner. The new teachers are Mandolin Martini, Barbara Ritchie, Margie Felix and Melissa Christiansen.

Also with those changes other organizations changed as well. The new Young Women's Presidency is Heidi Tyler, 1st Counselor Jennifer Roos, 2nd Counselor Ashley Call and Secretary Caree Yates. The new Primary Presidency is Lisa Wright, 1st Counselor Kristanne Willden, 2nd Counselor Shawna Lobato and Secretary Leisa Williams.

I am sure we will all be blessed with the new changes in our ward.

Try a Little Harder Craft

Everyone asked for a few directions on the craft we gave out at the enrichment night. Kristanne posted pictures (below) of a few done ones, so I will just add a few tips.
*Use modge podge to glue on the pages and embellishments. It also works for the magnets.
*Once the main papers have dried, you can use fine grain sand paper or a nail file to sand the edges (if you like this look or it seems uneven). I like to do this because it makes up for any imperfections.
*You can use an ink pad to antique the edges of the papers if you want.
*You can glue the letters and other things on with a glue stick or modge podge (I used a glue stick because it was neater.
*Punch the holes for the rings with a hole punch after the papers are glued on and dry
*Attach the magnets to the back with a modge podge. It holds great!
*Put them together with the rings - I tied my ribbon around the rings, but you could put it wherever you wanted.

I attached a picture of the orignal project (only it is sideways because I didn't know how to rotate my picture when I got it over here). Help Kristanne!

Enrichment Meeting

We had a wonderful Enrichment Meeting on Thursday to celebrate our Pursuit of Excellence. Brother Cowdin gave a great talk about "Trying a Little Harder to be a Little Better" and how it applies to the Christmas Season. And the meal was wonderful too. Sister Olsen put together kits for a magnet message of "Try a Little Harder to Be a Little Better." Some sisters asked for pictures to get an idea of what they look like finished, so below are two pictures of the finished crafts.

Barbara Ritchie taught our lesson this week. It was a great lesson from the Joseph Smith book called "Stand Fast through the Storms of Life." There were lots of amazing stories from Joseph Smith's life--the trials and tribulations he went through, why we have trials our lives, and how we can stand fast and be faithful.

John Taylor, the third President of the Church, said: “I heard the Prophet Joseph say, in speaking to the Twelve on one occasion: ‘You will have all kinds of trials to pass through. And it is quite as necessary for you to be tried as it was for Abraham and other men of God, and (said he) God will feel after you, and He will take hold of you and wrench your very heart strings, and if you cannot stand it you will not be fit for an inheritance in the Celestial Kingdom of God.’ … Joseph Smith never had many months of peace after he received the truth, and finally he was murdered in Carthage jail.”

“Stand fast, ye Saints of God, hold on a little while longer, and the storm of life will be past, and you will be rewarded by that God whose servants you are, and who will duly appreciate all your toils and afflictions for Christ’s sake and the Gospel’s. Your names will be handed down to posterity as Saints of God.”

George A. Smith, who served as a counselor to President Brigham Young, received the following counsel from the Prophet Joseph Smith at a time of great difficulty: “He told me I should never get discouraged, whatever difficulties might surround me. If I was sunk in the lowest pit of Nova Scotia and all the Rocky Mountains piled on top of me, I ought not to be discouraged but hang on, exercise faith, and keep up good courage and I should come out on the top of the heap at last.”

Next week our lesson will be from April's General Conference: "Daughters of God" by Elder M. Russell Ballard.

Sunday Lesson

Today Jill Olsen gave a great lesson on keeping an eternal perspective in our lives. She listed some "tools" to help us do this: using humor, faith, time, and a couple more that I can't remember right now. (Post them, please, Jill!)

Next week our lesson will be chapter #19 from Teachings of Presidents of the Church: Joseph Smith: Stand Fast through the Storms of Life, taught by Sis. Barbara Ritchie.

Thank you, thank you to all involved with the Enrichment Meeting Thursday night - those who attended, presented, brought refreshments, and even those who simply wanted to attend but couldn't. Good luck on your pursuit of excellence! I e-mailed the program to Bishop Drean and he has set a goal in each area. I guess this means he is invited to join us at the December 11 Enrichment Meeting when we celebrate our efforts, (and do the fabulous craft that Jill prepared that we didn't have time for). For those of you who didn't make it Thursday night it's all on the Pursuit of Excellence Blog - (except you didn't get to hear Janae sing with her mom, or see Lisa in a cap and gown, or hear Jen explain the OWL Patrol, or know what was in Chris's bag of exercise secrets, or get a gift from Jeanette, or learn about ancient civilizations and see the certificate we will receive upon completion of the program -all success counts - from Linnea). Have fun as you - "try a little harder, to be a little better."

Enrichment Meeting

Our Enrichment Meeting is this Thursday the 18th at 7 PM at the church. PLEASE PLEASE COME!!! We are introducing our new Pursuit of Excellence Program. It is similar to the one brought out years ago but updated for our ward in particular. It will be really neat.

We have four specialists who each have something to share with you. We also have a cute craft and best of all YUMMY refreshments. Don't miss it. It will be really great!!!

Relief Society Lesson (8/24/08)

Sister J. Young gave a great lesson in Relief Society today. It was from Elder Bednar's conference talk "Ask in Faith". The following is from the handout she prepared.

"Simply saying prayers is quite a different thing from engaging in meaningful prayer. I expect that all of us already know that prayer is essential for our spiritual development and protection. But what we know is not always reflected in what we do. And even though we recognize the importance of prayer, all of us can improve the consistency and efficacy of our personal and family prayers."

Elder Bednar gave 3 examples of asking in faith for what we need through meaningful prayers.

1. The first example is that of Joseph Smith and the First Vision.

Blessings require some effort on our part before we can obtain them, prayer as a form of work is an appointed means for obtaining the highest of all blessings. We press forward and persevere in the consecrated work of prayer, after we say "amen", by acting upon the things we have expressed to Heavenly Father.

We need to ASK in FAITH and be willing to ACT in order to receive "sweet blessings".

2. The second example of meaningful prayer is the importance of persevering through the trial of our faith.

Like it says in Esther 12:6, we need to dispute not because we see not, for we will receive no witness until after the trial of our faith. Alma and Amulek's prison did not fall till after their faith. Ammon and his brethren did not witness might miracles until after their faith.

3. The third example is the importance of recognizing and accepting the will of God in our lives.

Humble, earnest, and persistent prayer enables us to recognize and align ourselves with the will of our Heavenly Father.

The object of our prayers should not be to present a wish list or a series of requests but to secure for ourselves and for others blessings that God is eager to bestow, according to His will and timing.

There are so many examples of sisters and brothers in the scriptures who were willing to take that "Leap of Faith" by asking and then doing.

Next week (8/31/08) is combined Relief Society and Priesthood. The following week (9/7/08) will be lesson 17 from the manual: The Great Plan of Salvation.

Here it is --- Julie's Recipe for the Sunday treats - and they were a TREAT! Thanks Julie!

When I made the treat on Sunday, I made a large cookie sheet. You could 1/2 the recipe and make a 9 x 13 pan. If you have any questions, let me know. Julie

1. Make 1 batch of rice krispy treats:

1/4 c margarine

1 10 oz package marshmallows

6 cups rice krispies

Spread thinly in the botton of a greased cookie sheet.

2. Make the caramel:

1 c butter

2 c sugar1 can sweetened condensed milk

1 1/2 c karo syrup

1/4 t salt

Combine all these and cook (simmer) until 230 degrees or very soft ball. STIR CONSTANTLY.

3. Let caramel cool for about 5 minutes. Then spread over rice krispy treats.

4. Make another batch of rice krispy treats. And put carefully over caramel.

5. Let cool for at least 30 minutes.

6. Melt about 1 cup chocolate (I used dark) and spread in a thin layer on the rice krispy treats.

7. When completely cool cut into very small (bite size) pieces.

Enjoy!

Relief Society Lesson (8/17/08)

Sister Rich gave our Relief Society lesson today--on her birthday, I might add. (Happy birthday!) It was a great lesson: Revelation and the Living Prophet (ch. 16 in Teachings of Presidents of the Church: Joseph Smith).

Wilford Woodruff reported: "Brother Brigham took...the Bible, and laid it down; he took the Book of Mormon, and laid it down; and he took the Book of Doctrine and Covenants, and laid it down before him, and he said: 'There is the written word of God to us, concerning the work of God from teh beginning of the world, almost, to our day. And now,' said he, 'when compared with the living oracles those books are nothing to me; those books do not convey the word of God direct to us now, as do the words of a Prophet or a man bearing the Holy Priesthood in our day and generation. I would rather have the living oracles than all the writing in the books.' When he was through, Brother Joseph said to the congregation: 'Brother Brigham has told you the word of the Lord, and he has told you the truth.'"

The points were also made that we do not have to blindly follow the living Prophets. We are able to receive personal revelation that the revelations given to the Church through the prophets are true and right. The Holy Ghost is also a revelator, by which we can know of the truthfulness of the revelations given to the living prophets.
